An injection-molded plastic kit of the single-seat Japanese fighter Nakajima Ki-84 Hayate in 1:32 scale from Hasegawa. It is a modern-engineered mold with a nicely rendered surface and part breakdown. The cockpit and forward section can be shown off effectively thanks to the optional opening of the cowl cooling flaps, behind which the engine detail stands out. The kit is supplied with decal sheets for several period Japanese aircraft.
The Nakajima Ki-84 Hayate (Allied reporting name Frank, official designation Type 4 Fighter) was one of the most capable Japanese fighters of the Second World War. It was powered by an air-cooled radial engine and stood out for its combination of speed, climb rate, and decent armor protection. It was deployed across a number of Pacific and Asian battlefronts in the war's final stages. After the war it was rated one of the best Japanese fighters of its time.
Use liquid plastic cement and sand the seams smooth. Apply a primer before painting to unify the surface and reveal any flaws. An airbrush is ideal for Japanese aircraft shades (natural metal, dark green upper surfaces); panel breakdown can be highlighted with a fine panel wash. Decide on the open-cowl-flap option in advance — an exposed engine is rewarding but demands more careful work.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints, and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
