A set of so-called 3D decals intended to complete the cockpit of a model of the Bell P-39 fighter in the Q and N versions. Unlike ordinary decals, these printed elements are not flat — they carry real relief, so that once applied the instrument panel and the side consoles look three-dimensional, with recessed dials and raised controls. It is not an aircraft model but an accessory for a kit in 1:32 scale.
The Bell P-39 Airacobra was among the strangest American fighters of its day. The Allison engine sat behind the pilot and drove the propeller through a long shaft running under the cockpit floor, thanks to which a heavy cannon fitted into the propeller axis. For its time the aircraft had unusual nose landing gear, and one got into the cockpit through car-style doors. The N and Q versions were the most numerous and a large part of them went under the Lend-Lease program to the Soviet Air Force, where they proved themselves better in low-level fighting than with the Western users. It is precisely the glazing with car-style doors that makes the interior a clearly visible part on models of this type.
Prepare a smooth base: rid the plastic parts of their original relief where the decal will sit, spray the base color and go over it with a gloss coat. Cut the decal out as closely as possible, soak it briefly and move it into place without dragging it over edges. Handle decal fixer solutions and softeners carefully and rather diluted — raised decals take aggressive products worse than thin classic sheets. Once dry, unify the surface with a matte coat and, if you wish, pick the frames out with a fine brush. The instrument glasses will come out well after a drop of gloss coat.
