Tamiya 1:32 P-51D/K Mustang is a large, detailed plastic model of the American fighter aircraft of the Second World War.
Responsibility details are not available.
A large-scale plastic kit of the legendary American North American P-51 Mustang fighter in the D/K version, in 1:32 scale from Tamiya (Pacific Theater edition). The model is highly detailed: the engine cowling panels are thin and held by magnets, so they can be lifted off to reveal the finely worked Packard Merlin engine. The kit holds two propeller options - the standard Hamilton Standard for the D version and the Aeroproducts for the K - and allows a choice between the early and the late tail with a dorsal fin. Drop tanks are enclosed as well.
The P-51 Mustang was one of the most successful fighter aircraft of the Second World War. The P-51D version was notable for its bubble canopy giving a view in every direction and for strong armament of six 12.7 mm machine guns in the wings. Thanks to the Packard Merlin engine and drop tanks it had great range and escorted bombers deep over enemy territory. The P-51K version differed from the D precisely in the Aeroproducts propeller.
It is an extensive model with a large number of parts, suited rather to more experienced modelers. It pays to follow the instructions and to finish and paint the cockpit and the engine interior first, before closing them up. Paint the landing gear bays and the gear legs separately. For smooth metal surfaces an airbrush is ideal, as is a gloss undercoat beneath any metallic (natural metal) finish; then lay the decals over a gloss coat and seal them with a matte or semi-gloss overcoat. A fine wash brings out the panel lines.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
