The set British Tank Repair Crew from the Ukrainian brand MiniArt holds four plastic figures of British tank crewmen servicing their hardware. Every figure has a fret of its own, so the parts do not get mixed up. Two men are cleaning the bore of a gun barrel, while two more are working with tools.
British armored units of the Second World War spent most of their time out of action in exactly this way: cleaning the gun barrel, checking the running gear and making small repairs right out in the field. These scenes give a diorama life, because they show a crew in working clothing and without helmets, that is differently from the way we know it from combat scenes. Machines clogged with dust were, moreover, attended to daily.
A sharp scalpel and fine abrasive paper will remove the parting lines on the sleeves and the trouser legs; it is a few strokes, but it shows on the result at once. The faces stand out when they are first underlaid with a dark base and the raised places are then brought out with a lighter shade. A British blouse and khaki trousers will take fine dusting with pigment at the hems and the knees.
The figures come unglued and without a finish, which leaves freedom in the choice of shades.
