The detail set captures the American Browning M1919A4 infantry machine gun in .30 caliber (7.62 mm) set up on the M2 ground tripod and completed by the M1 ammunition box. It is intended for models and dioramas in 1:35 scale, where it will replace a coarse part from a plastic kit or complete a scene in which the weapon has been missing so far. The maker is the Polish firm MASTER, which has long specialized in small metal accessories, above all turned barrels.

The real subject

The M1919A4 was an air-cooled machine gun with a characteristic perforated barrel jacket, derived from an older water-cooled design. In ground use it was mounted on exactly this low M2 tripod, from which accurate fire could be delivered, while on vehicles it hung on pintle and ring mounts. The ammunition was fed by a belt from a sheet-metal box, in .30 caliber typically from the M1 box.

Fitting and painting tips

First remove the plastic part from the kit and clean up the bed the weapon is to sit in. Put the set together dry, and only then glue: a thick cyanoacrylate glue or a two-part epoxy suits metal parts, as ordinary cement for plastic does not hold on them. Degrease the parts with spirit before painting and use a good base coat, otherwise the paint flakes off the smooth surface. The weapon looks believable in a dark, slightly lightened black with a hint of wear on the edges and on the barrel jacket; the ammunition box will take a shade of its own and discreet wear.
