Buckles and straps held everything from tarpaulins to tools on German tanks. The 1:35 Buckles German tank set brings them down to scale.

A small thing that gives away an experienced builder on a model: the buckles of the straps on German armored vehicles of the Second World War. The brand Royal Model has worked them up as a separate accessory for 1:35 scale, usable across types of vehicle, because the fastening hardware in the Wehrmacht was largely standardized.
German tanks carried a considerable amount of equipment on the outside. Straps with buckles held shovels, crowbars, jacks, tow cables, jerrycans and rolled tarpaulins on the fenders and sides; the crews added their own baggage and loot to them. It is exactly this clutter that turns a model of a Panzer IV, a Panther or a Tiger into a living machine rather than a museum exhibit. The original plastic straps in kits, though, tend to be thick, and the buckle on them merges into a shapeless bump.
First shape the strap from a thin strip and attach the buckle to it only in place, so that the strap passes through it at the right angle. Pick the metal hardware out with a dark shade and a light rub, so that it stands out against the canvas or leather of the strap. Leave the loose end of the strip sticking out slightly; perfect symmetry looks untrue.
The package contains only the accessory itself, not paints, glue or a kit.
