Resin exhausts for a model of the CH-47 A Chinook helicopter in 1:35 scale. Quickboost is a brand of the Czech firm Aires aimed at simple replacement parts that are installed in place of a plastic piece from a kit. No assembly and no photo-etched parts, just a swap and a clean-up.
Exhaust outlets are among the parts an injection mold never manages satisfactorily: for the plastic to reach the whole shape, the wall has to be thick, and the outlet therefore stays blind or shallow. On a tandem helicopter the exhausts sit in a well visible place on the sides of the rear pylon, so there is no hiding them. A resin casting allows a thin wall and real depth in the opening, and at the same time holds crisper detail on the rim.
The CH-47 Chinook is an American heavy transport helicopter with a pair of rotors in tandem that turn in opposite directions, so the machine needs no tail rotor. Version A is the original production standard with the weakest engines of the whole range, recognizable among other things by the details of the engine nacelles and of the rear fuselage. The Chinook is used to carry troops and materiel and to carry loads slung underneath.
Wash the castings in lukewarm soapy water, cut the casting blocks off with a saw and level the surface with a file. Sand wet and with respiratory protection. Try both exhausts dry and compare them so that they stand out from the fuselage equally far. It is glued with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue). Paint the inside before you glue the part in; a dark base, metallic highlighting and soot around the mouth all prove themselves. On the surrounding areas of the fuselage behind the exhausts a fine sooting applied with an airbrush in light coats belongs, because on the real machine this is exactly the most conspicuously dirty place.
The accessory is supplied unpainted, as resin castings for altering a model. Paints, glue and the base kit are not included in the package.
