An injection-molded plastic kit of the Chinese Type 96 main battle tank. It is a machine that makes up the numerically strongest part of the Chinese armored force and is represented in the modeling range far less than Western or Russian types. The model is released by Trumpeter in 1:35 scale, the most widespread scale for tanks, so it can be combined with figures and accessories in the same scale.
The Type 96 grows out of the development line of Chinese second-generation tanks and joins a proven chassis to an upgraded turret. The main armament is a 125 millimeter smoothbore gun with an autoloader, thanks to which a three-man crew is enough. The protection is a combination of rolled and layered armor and, on later configurations, additional elements on the front of the turret and the hull as well. The vehicle was taken into service in the second half of the 1990s and in the following years went through several upgrades that gradually changed its appearance and its equipment.
Finish the running gear and the sides of the hull before you fit the side skirts and the tanks. The barrel of the smoothbore gun deserves careful sanding of the parting seam; on a long barrel every unevenness shows. Chinese equipment as a rule wears a three-color camouflage with wavy transitions, which an airbrush at low pressure handles well. Add a dark wash into the welds, wear on the edges of the turret and dust pigments on the lower part of the hull and on the tracks.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
