A diorama base showing a railroad crossing in 1:35 scale. It is not a model of equipment but a plinth for a scene ready to be fitted with vehicles and figures. The set is cast from a firm material (plaster, in the newer editions a harder ceramic variant) and completed by laser-cut and printed parts. The relief combines a track of the standard European gauge with a surfaced road, so both armored equipment and railroad cars will pass over the base.
A crossing is a favorite subject of action: it crosses two axes of transport and creates a natural tension in a scene. The base gives a model a firm frame and realistic terrain without the need to build a ground from scratch.
The cast surface is absorbent and takes acrylic paints, washes and pigments excellently; it is ideal for mud and dust effects. Any parts can be glued with PVA or cyanoacrylate glue. The material is brittle, so handle it carefully; cracks can be filled and sanded. Prime the surface before painting.
The base is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints, vehicles and figures are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
