The larger version of the farm wagon from the Italian brand Royal Model, cast in resin in 1:35 scale. Of a pair of similar items this is the larger variant.

Transport on a farm without an engine

Large wagons drawn by horses or oxen carried grain, hay and beet, served in house moves and during the war often ended up in army columns too; horse-drawn transport remained an integral part of the supply of many units until 1945. A longer bed with side rails could carry a bulky load, but it was also prone to twisting, so surviving examples tend to have visibly bowed side members. A wagon of such a size can shift the feel of a whole scene from combat to everyday. In Eastern Europe a team also often remained the only way to get supplies along a muddy road where a truck could not reach.

Finishing the wooden surfaces

Large areas of planking call for more work than small accessories: add a hint of grain by scribing with a blunt needle, then layer glaze shades and finally bring out the edges. Oil paint spread over a dried varnish gives wood a depth that is hard to reach with acrylic alone. Assemble the wheels and the axle on a flat surface, so that the wagon does not stand crooked.
