1:35 German Infantry Ardennes 1944 is a resin casting of an infantryman from the December fighting in the Ardennes, in 1:35 scale.
Responsibility details are not available.
A winter subject is among the most rewarding things you can build in 1:35 scale. Snow, fog and soaked greatcoats give a scene a mood that a summer diorama reaches only with difficulty. This figure from the Italian maker Royal Model is cast in polyurethane resin and aims straight at the Ardennes in December.
The German offensive in the Ardennes opened on December 16, 1944 with an attack across the wooded, hilly belt on the border of Belgium and Luxembourg. It counted on fog and low cloud to keep Allied aircraft on the ground, and at first that worked. The men moved in a sharp winter, in deep snow and without the supply such an advance would have needed, and it showed in their appearance: improvised winter clothing, blankets thrown over the shoulders, captured pieces of equipment. By the beginning of January the advance had been stopped.
Never paint a winter figure cold over the whole surface. The face and the hands need warm, reddened tones instead, otherwise the figure looks like a statue made of snow. Keep the cloth faded and soiled at the hems and low down by the legs. Apply the snow on the equipment at the very end, with fine filler or modeling powder, and only where it would naturally fall.
The item is supplied for assembly and painting; snow effects are bought separately.
