The first part of the two-part set 1:35 Hornisse-Nashorn Sd. Kfz. 164 from Royal Model. Metal and resin parts for detailing the German tank destroyer; you buy the plastic kit separately.
Responsibility details are not available.
Royal Model has divided the detailing of this vehicle into two separately sold sets and this is the first of them. It contains photo-etched parts and castings of polyurethane resin. The instructions accompany the assembly picture by picture, so that it is clear where each piece belongs.
The vehicle arose by placing an 88 mm anti-tank gun with a long barrel on a universal chassis derived from the Panzer III and IV tanks. The fighting compartment stayed open at the top and the armor was merely symbolic: this was a gun on tracks, not an armored vehicle for a direct clash. The machines first took part in the fighting in the summer of 1943 at Kursk. The original name Hornisse was replaced at the beginning of 1944 by the designation Nashorn. Its strong point was the ability to destroy a target at a range that ordinary German guns did not reach.
The open superstructure exposes almost the whole inside to view, so it pays to paint in parts before closing the hull up. Metal surfaces need a primer layer. For accentuating the rivets and seams reach for a dark wash, and for the chassis for dust pigments.
Count on buying the plastic kit separately. Paints, glues and pigments are not enclosed.
