Swapping the head is the simplest way to turn an average figure into a good one. A casting captures the features of the face, the texture of the headgear and the shape of the neck considerably more crisply than a split injection mold can manage. The set is intended directly for Italian armored vehicle crews of the Second World War.
Italian tankers wore a characteristic leather protective helmet with a padded roll around the head. It was not armored protection but a way of absorbing the knocks inside a vehicle that was thrown from side to side across country. Away from combat, side caps and peaked cloth caps also appeared. It is precisely by the headgear that a period photograph of an Italian crew is recognized at first glance, and it is worth not losing that mark on a model.
Cut the original head off with a saw just above the collar and level the surface. Drill a shallow hole in the torso, glue a short piece of wire into it, and the new head will then sit firmly and the turn can be adjusted. Wash the castings before painting, so that the primer holds on them. Build the skin up in thin layers from the darkest tone to the light, because a single coat looks flat.
