An injection-molded plastic kit of the anti-tank Stuka Junkers Ju 87 G1/G2 in the unusual 1:35 scale from the manufacturer Border Model, an aircraft that can be put into one diorama with tanks and figures.

The Junkers Ju 87 G1/G2 Stuka from the manufacturer Border Model is an injection-molded plastic kit in 1:35 scale. That is deliberate, not a mistake: 1:35 is the standard scale of ground vehicles and figures, while aircraft are normally made in 1:32, 1:48 or 1:72. Border Model releases aircraft in 1:35 precisely so that they can be put into one diorama with tanks, vehicles and figures, and that is the main added value of this kit. The package contains gray plastic, clear parts, photo-etched parts and a resin figure of a standing pilot. The Junkers Jumo 211 engine is worked out as well and can be displayed with the cowlings off; both short and long wing tips are enclosed to tell the G-1 and G-2 versions apart.
Mind this: the G version is not the classic Stuka with bombs. It is a specialized tank destroyer: in place of a bomb load it carried two 37 mm cannon in pods under the wings, hence the nickname Kanonenvogel, meaning cannon bird. It came about at the prompting of Hans-Ulrich Rudel, the most successful dive bomber pilot, who is credited with destroying over five hundred Soviet armored vehicles. The G-1 was converted from the D-3 version and used its wing, while the G-2 came from the D-5 with a greater span, which is why there are two sets of wing tips in the kit. The Stuka as a type is a dive bomber with an unmistakable inverted gull wing and fixed landing gear in teardrop fairings. The legendary Jericho-Trompete sirens, which wailed in a dive as a psychological weapon, were carried above all by the early versions (B); on the later machines they were given up because of drag. The Ju 87 G flew mainly on the Eastern Front.
Glue with liquid cement for plastic, and photo-etched parts with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue). Paint the engine, the cockpit and the cannon pods before the fuselage is closed, and decide in advance whether you are building the G-1 or the G-2, using the matching wing tips accordingly. Over a primer, spray with an airbrush: the typical scheme is a gray-green upper camouflage with a light underside, and on winter machines from the Eastern Front an overspray of white. A model in 1:35 is worth treating as part of a diorama, with figures, vehicles and terrain; use washes and pigments for mud and dust.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
