The KV-85 is a Soviet heavy tank of the end of the Second World War. It arose by setting a new cast turret with a gun of 85 mm caliber on the hull of a lightened version of the KV line, so that the heavy tank could threaten contemporary German machines again. It stayed in production only briefly and is therefore a rewarding item for a collection of Soviet vehicles. On the vehicle there are many elements that are in reality of thin sheet, the fenders and the grilles over the engine compartment for instance, and in an injection-molded kit those have to be markedly thicker.

The parts are cut out of the fret, bent along the etched score lines and fitted to the model. The extent of the fret and where the individual parts belong are given by the manufacturer's instructions.
Work on a hard surface and cut the parts off with a sharp knife, not by breaking them out, otherwise they will twist. Bend longer thin parts in a bending tool for photo-etched metal or against the edge of a steel ruler and lead the pressure along the whole length of the bend at once. Metal is glued with cyanoacrylate glue; glue for polystyrene does not hold on it. Before painting, wash the fret, degrease it and coat it with a primer; on bare metal the covering shade rubs off during ordinary handling of the model.
For modelers of Soviet vehicles who object to thick plastic fenders and coarse grilles and want to move a model toward a scale thickness of sheet. Working with photo-etched metal wants tweezers, a sharp knife and patience, but the result is visible on a finished model at first glance. The kit itself, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
