About product

Liefer Pritschenwagen Typ 170V with a canvas cover, 1:35 scale

An injection-molded plastic kit in 1:35 scale from the MiniArt brand, which has civilian and utility equipment of the first half of the twentieth century as its domain. The subject is a light delivery vehicle with an open flatbed body, in this form supplemented with a canvas cover on bows. The German name Liefer Pritschenwagen literally means a delivery flatbed, that is, exactly what the vehicle did: it delivered goods around the town and outside it.

The real subject

The Typ 170V was the most widespread German mid-class passenger car of the end of the 1930s and became the basis for a whole line of utility derivatives. Besides an ordinary body, its sturdy backbone frame could carry a flatbed, a box van or special bodies, and that is exactly why you will meet it in civilian traffic, with tradesmen, commercial firms and town services. During the war a large part of these vehicles got into military and rear-area service, where they carried supplies, mail and materiel. The version with a cover over the bed protected the load from the weather and is at the same time a rewarding one for a modeler, because the canvas gives the silhouette height and the model comes out well even next to bigger vehicles. Vehicles of this type returned to service in large numbers after the war and helped to restore civilian transport.

Building and painting tips

Proceed from the frame, the axles and the engine to the cab and finally to the bed with the bows. Leave the canvas and the bows aside as long as possible, so that you can get at painting the bed from the inside. Mask the glazing of the cab before spraying. Glue with a thin modeling cement for plastic, sand the seams over and even the surface out with primer. The canvas calls for a different approach than sheet metal: a flatter shade, a fine emphasis of the folds with a lighter tone and a weak wash into the shadows, so that it acts as a textile and not as a plastic cover. Keep the weathering in proportion to the role of the vehicle, dust on the wheels and the wheel arches, fine rubbing on the edges of the bed and on the sills.

Who the model is for

  • For builders of civilian and town dioramas
  • For those interested in utility equipment of the first half of the twentieth century
  • For collectors who are putting together a family of derivatives of one chassis
  • For modelers who want to try painting a canvas cover

The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
