An injection-molded plastic kit of the Israeli M1 Super Sherman tank in 1:35 scale from the Japanese company Tamiya. The model captures the upgraded version of the American Sherman that the Israeli army rearmed with a 76 mm gun. The parts are molded in olive green plastic, and the hull and the turret carry the characteristic cast surface texture. The package also holds crew figures and decals for several Israeli vehicles.
After the state of Israel was founded in 1948, the American M4 Sherman became the backbone of the Israeli armored forces. In the mid-1950s the machines based on the M4A1 were rearmed with a more powerful 76 mm gun so that they could deal with the Soviet T-34-85 tanks in the Arab armies. The designation M1 referred to the type of barrel and set these tanks apart from the earlier versions with the 75 mm gun. They first saw combat during the Suez Crisis in 1956 and some of them served into the 1970s.
Finish the running gear and the walking beam suspension (VVSS) before you close up the hull. The cast surface of the turret comes out well with dry pastel work and a light lightening of the edges. The base is a flat olive or the Israeli sand-gray shade applied with an airbrush; a convincing patina comes from dark washes in the recesses and from dust and mud pigments on the lower areas and the running gear.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
