An injection-molded plastic kit of the American M42A1 Duster self-propelled anti-aircraft gun in 1:35 scale from AFV Club. The model captures the tracked vehicle with an open rotating turret carrying a pair of 40 mm guns. The package contains richly broken-down parts and photo-etched elements.
The M42 Duster was an American self-propelled anti-aircraft gun built on the chassis of the M41 Walker Bulldog light tank. In the rotating turret it carried a twin mount of 40 mm Bofors guns with all-round traverse. It came about in the 1950s to destroy low-flying targets, but with the arrival of jet aircraft its anti-aircraft role quickly grew obsolete. It earned its real fame in the war in Vietnam, where its quick-firing guns proved themselves mainly against ground targets in fire support and convoy protection.
Work in subassemblies and use a thin cement for plastic; finish the running gear and the turret interior before they are closed up. Glue the photo-etched parts with cyanoacrylate glue. Apply a primer before painting and put the paints on with an airbrush. On Vietnam machines you will appreciate pronounced wear, washes into the detail and dust pigments on the tracks and the fenders.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
