About product

MAT 49 submachine gun with the magazine folded (1:35, Firma49)

This modeling accessory from the Czech maker Firma49 represents a faithful reduction of the French MAT 49 submachine gun. It is not a kit but a single weapon intended for a soldier figure or for the armament of a vehicle and a diorama. The printed weapon carries sharp detail, the front sight, the body of the magazine and a hint of the sling, of a kind that is practically impossible to do in injection-molded plastic; the weapons packed with kits tend to be coarse or missing altogether. It is precisely the right period weapon in a figure's hand that decides whether a scene looks believable. The 1:35 scale is the standard figure scale, so of the variants offered the part is the largest and the easiest to work with.

Use

  • Place the weapon in a figure's hands, or set it in a rack, in a vehicle or among the stowed armament in a diorama.
  • Carefully cut the part off the print supports with a sharp scalpel, as the magazine and the front sight are small and fragile.
  • Clean up the surface after cutting with fine abrasive paper, wet and with respiratory protection.
  • Glue it with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue); cement for plastic does not hold on this material.
  • Apply a primer before painting; darken the metal parts with a dark steel, set the wooden and canvas elements apart with a matching shade and bring out the detail with a dry brush.

Who the accessory is for

For modelers building figures and dioramas in 1:35 scale who want to equip their soldiers with an authentic period weapon. The MAT 49 suits postwar scenes with the French army. Anyone building in a smaller scale will appreciate that Firma49 offers the same submachine gun in 1:48 and 1:72 as well; choose the variant according to the scale of your figure or diorama. Figures, further Firma49 gear and modeling paints go well with it to finish a scene off.

The accessory is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Paints, glue and figures are not included in the package. Printed parts are fragile; use a respirator and ventilate when sanding.

A French submachine gun introduced in 1949. It was made by the arsenal at Tulle and used by the French army. Its distinguishing feature is the magazine, which could be folded forward under the barrel for compact carrying.

It is the variant of the weapon with its characteristic magazine in the folded position under the barrel. The folding magazine is exactly what is typical of the MAT 49.

A printed weapon has sharp detail, the front sight, the magazine and the sling, of a kind that is not done in plastic. The weapons packed with kits tend to be coarse or absent, and the right period weapon is what makes a figure authentic.
