A replacement tail rotor for a model of the American MH-60S shipboard helicopter in 1:35 scale. It replaces the part from the kit with a more accurate rendering of the rotor head, the blade hinges and their mountings. On shipboard machines this part is also interesting because the tail boom folds, so the rotor is often seen in photographs from very close up and any simplification of the plastic part is easily spotted on a model.
The MH-60S is an American shipboard helicopter that combines the airframe of the army Black Hawk with the powerplant and rotor system of the naval Seahawk family. It serves for vertical replenishment of ships, for rescuing crews, for mine countermeasures and for supporting special forces. The tail rotor has four blades and a canted plane of rotation, so it also takes a share in carrying the tail. The folding boom is a condition of storing the machine in a ship's hangar.
Snip the part off its supports close to the model and level the face with a file or a scalpel. It is glued with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue). Apply a primer before painting. Mask the erosion protection on the blade edge and spray it separately; it is a different shade from the face of the blade. On naval subjects it also pays to add a fine salt staining along the lower edge.
This is an accessory, not a complete model. It is supplied unassembled and unpainted.
