1:35 Modern oil drums are resin castings of present-day steel drums for completing dioramas and supply scenes.
Responsibility details are not available.
The set brings present-day steel drums cast in resin. This is not a vehicle kit but an accessory that fills the bed of a truck, the corner of a workshop or a supply post. The cylindrical body with its rolling hoops and the plugs on the lid belongs among the objects that make it immediately legible on a diorama what kind of place it is.
The 200 liter steel drum came about at the beginning of the twentieth century and its shape has hardly changed since. Armies carry fuel, oils and water in it, and you will find the same piece at a supply company just as at a civilian filling station. That is exactly why it suits scenes from the postwar years right up to today and is not tied to a single army. While older wartime drums tend to have a smoother body and a different arrangement of the hoops, the modern version has pressed ribs and a lid with two openings of different sizes.
Cut the remains of the casting blocks off with a saw under the bottom of the drum, where nobody will see them afterward, and level the surface with sanding paper. Degrease the castings before painting and go over them with a thin primer. The drums look best when you color each one a little differently: a base shade, then edges worn in places, a hint of rust and finally a layer of dust around the bottom. A few pieces tipped on their side or dented look more convincing than a neat row. Deal with any lettering and warning markings with decals from your own stock.
