About product

PzKpfw I 1:35 - metal machine gun barrels and antenna

A metal set from Master for building a model of the German PzKpfw I light tank in 1:35 scale. According to the name it holds turned MG 13K machine gun barrels and an antenna. It is not a vehicle kit but an accessory that replaces plastic parts; the name lists the Tamiya, Dragon, Tristar and other kits.

Two different weak points, one solution

The set deals with two separate problems at once. With the pair of machine guns in the turret it is a matter of spacing and alignment - the barrels sit side by side and any deviation is immediately obvious from the front. With the antenna it is something else: a long thin part in plastic is practically impossible to keep straight. Either it is already bent in the box, or it warps in the heat, or it snaps at the first careless touch. Turned metal holds a straight line and survives handling, so the model can be carried and dusted as usual without the antenna ending up at the bottom of the cabinet.

The real subject

The PzKpfw I was a German light tank of the first half of the 1930s, originally conceived as a training and lightly armed machine. In its rotating turret it carried a pair of 7.92 mm machine guns, the armor was thin and the crew numbered two men. On command and radio-equipped machines a rod antenna appeared on the hull.

Fitting and painting

The plastic barrels are cut off as close to the mantlet as possible and the holes are drilled out with a micro drill; dry-fit both barrels together and check them from the front of the turret. The antenna goes into a drilled hole in its bracket on the hull, and it works well to glue it with epoxy, which gives you time to line it up vertically. Degrease the metal with alcohol before painting and cover it with a metal primer. It is best to fit the antenna right at the end of the build, after painting and weathering - it gets in the way during the work and a sleeve catches it easily.

Who the set is for

  • For builders of German light tanks in 1:35 scale
  • For modelers whose plastic antenna keeps warping or breaking
  • For those who want both barrels in the turret properly aligned
  • To combine with photo-etched detail sets

This is an accessory for building the model, not a standalone kit. The base model, glue and paints are not included in the package.

FAQ

According to the name, MG 13K machine gun barrels and an antenna. The exact number of pieces is not stated, so dry-fit the parts against the plastic ones before gluing.

A long thin plastic part sags already in the box and breaks while being handled. A metal antenna holds a straight line and survives the model being carried around.

Right at the very end, after painting and weathering. It gets in the way during the work and is easily caught.
