An injection-molded plastic kit of a railway semaphore in 1:35 scale from MiniArt. It is a diorama accessory, not a vehicle model: it serves to bring railroad and military scenes to life. The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted, and cement for plastic is needed to build it.
The mechanical semaphore (signal) was a classic element of the railroads of the first half of the 20th century. By the position of its arm and, at night, by the color of its light it gave the engine driver the order to go or to stop. Post masts with semaphore arms were an inseparable part of stations, switches and lines and are a rewarding detail for railroad and wartime dioramas alike.
Deburr the parts carefully and sand the parting lines. Spray the mast and the arm over a primer; black and white or red and white markings on the arm and a gray or rusty mast are typical. Realism comes from a fine wash in the recesses, a dry brush on the edges and pigments with traces of rust and dust. The semaphore is a fitting addition to dioramas with vehicles, trains or a station scene.
