A hearth with a chimney stack from a Russian dwelling in 1:35 scale is a ready architectural element for an interior diorama.
Responsibility details are not available.
This element from the Royal Model brand will complete the interior of a country cottage on the Eastern Front. It suits a diorama with a cut-away wall, a display scene without a roof and a background for a single figure.
In an East European cottage the masonry hearth was the most important piece of furnishing: it heated the house, food was cooked on it, and in winter people slept on its warmed surface. The whole of domestic life went on around it, and in a model it fills the same role, because it gives an interior both scale and a reason why the figures are gathered just there. Rendered masonry with an open mouth also takes traces of soot and wear well, so a modeler can enjoy themselves on it.
Check the material of the casting by looking at it and testing the edge: a dusty surface gives away plaster, a more flexible mass resin. Plaster bonds with PVA glue and drinks paint like a sponge, so it needs a primer first; resin parts are joined by cyanoacrylate glue. Render looks best as a light base drawn over dry and complemented by a warm tone. The mouth of the hearth is darkened in blackish brown from the center toward the edges, and a pinch of pigment on the floor will finish off the ash.
The hearth arrives as a raw casting with no surface finish.
