An injection-molded plastic kit of the German Sd.Kfz.165 Hummel self-propelled gun in 1:35 scale from Dragon. The model captures the initial version of the vehicle. The box contains photo-etched parts and decals; the exact number of parts and marking options is not stated here.
The Hummel (bumblebee) was a German heavy self-propelled gun of the Second World War — an open armored superstructure with a 15 cm howitzer on a combined chassis derived from the Panzer III and IV (the so-called Geschützwagen III/IV). It served as mobile artillery support for the tank divisions and was first used in larger numbers from 1943, among other places in the fighting at Kursk. Thanks to its tracked chassis it was able to keep up with advancing tanks and to change firing positions quickly. The initial batch differed from the later ones in details of the superstructure and the driver's section, which makes it an interesting variant for collectors.
Assemble and paint the running gear and the lower hull before finishing the superstructure; the open fighting compartment allows a view inside, so paint and highlight the interior and the howitzer carefully. Glue the parts with a thin cement for plastic and attach the photo-etched parts with cyanoacrylate glue. After the base coat (typically Dunkelgelb with oversprays) and the gloss coat under the decals, bring out the detail with a wash and add dust and mud with pigments.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
