The Sd.Kfz. 223 is a light German four-wheeled armored car of the Second World War, built as a signals and reconnaissance vehicle. Compared with the ordinary reconnaissance form it carried a more powerful radio set and, above the hull, a large frame antenna, which makes it an unmistakable machine from a distance. Besides the antenna the vehicle has a number of further small elements of thin sheet, where the limits of injection-molded plastic show soonest.

Photo-etched metal is thin sheet with the outlines of the parts and the score lines of the bends etched into it: the parts are cut out of the fret, bent and glued onto the model in place of the coarser plastic parts or beside them. Which parts of the car the set deals with and exactly where they belong are given by the manufacturer's instructions.
Separate the parts with a sharp knife on a hard surface, not by breaking them out with tweezers, otherwise they will bend before you want to bend them yourself. Make the bends along the marked score lines, ideally in a bending tool for photo-etched metal, or else against the edge of a steel ruler. Glue for polystyrene has no effect on metal, so use cyanoacrylate glue in a minute quantity. Before painting, wash the parts, degrease them and coat them with a primer; only on that does the covering shade hold so that it does not chip off while the finished model is handled.
For modelers who build German reconnaissance vehicles and want to have the sheet-metal elements on them in a matching thickness. Count on tweezers, a sharp knife and calm work over a part-built model, as small metal parts forgive less than plastic. The kit itself, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
