This kit from the Ukrainian manufacturer MiniArt covers the Sd.Kfz. 234/4 heavy armored car in 1:35 scale. The Interior Kit edition means that the model also allows for the inside of the vehicle, so the build can be done with the hatches open and show what stays hidden on ordinary kits. MiniArt prides itself on the rich detail of its armored vehicles and this new release lives up to that reputation.
The eight-wheeled Sd.Kfz. 234 family was the high point of German reconnaissance armored cars of the Second World War. The 234/4 version received a 7.5 cm anti-tank gun in an open superstructure, which turned a reconnaissance vehicle into an improvised tank destroyer deployed in the closing phase of the conflict. The combination of high mobility and heavy armament makes it a striking modeling subject.
Paint the interior completely and highlight it with a wash before you close the hull; afterwards you will not get inside. On the eight-wheeled chassis keep checking that all the wheels sit level. The camouflage benefits from gently lightening the centers of the panels and from dust pigments around the fenders. The Sd.Kfz. 234 steered on all its wheels, so keep the turn of the front and rear pairs consistent and check it from above. The open superstructure with the gun lets the viewer look into the fighting compartment, whose walls deserve the same care as the outside of the vehicle.
