The British Sherman with the long anti-tank gun is made more accurate by the 1:35 Sherman Firefly VC metal set.
Responsibility details are not available.
A metal photo-etched fret designed for a plastic model of the British version of the Sherman with the long anti-tank gun. It mainly replaces the sheet-metal elements that cannot be made thin enough in injection-molded plastic: fenders, track covers, grab handles, mesh grilles and small tool clips. The result is a sharper hull silhouette, on which the weathering then works better as well.
In 1943 the British found that an ordinary Sherman was not enough against the German heavy tanks, so they built an Ordnance QF 17-pounder gun into its turret. To fit the long breech into the turret they turned it through ninety degrees, deleted the hull radio operator and filled his place with ammunition; a box for the radio set was added at the rear of the turret. The VC version was based on the Sherman V, powered by five coupled engines. In Normandy the Firefly was the only Allied tank able to penetrate the Panther and the Tiger regularly, so it became target number one and the crews disguised the long barrel with paint.
Leave the long photo-etched fenders until the hull is already assembled, so that they sit without strain. A slight ripple or a torn-off corner looks convincing, because real sheet metal was routinely damaged in the field. A wash applied after the base shade has dried will bring out the dark lines between the parts.
The plastic base kit, brushes and paints are to be obtained separately, as they are not in the package.
