About product

Sikorsky CH-54 Tarhe – intake (FOD) covers 1:35, Quickboost

This item is not a kit of a helicopter. It is a separate resin accessory for an already built model of the heavy CH-54 Tarhe crane helicopter in 1:35 scale. Behind it stands the Czech company Aires and its Quickboost line, aimed at small, quickly usable resin replacements for individual parts. The casting has sharp edges and a smooth surface, which in injection-molded plastic is hard to reach on a part this small.

What intake covers are for

The abbreviation FOD stands for damage to an engine caused by a foreign object drawn in. Parked turbine machines are therefore given covers over their air intakes that keep dust, leaves and forgotten tools out of the compressor. On a model they are an immediately legible sign that the machine is standing on the apron and not flying. They therefore suit a diorama, a display scene with ground crew, or simply a place where you do not want to deal with the detail of the blades inside the intake.

Fitting and painting tips

First wash the resin castings in lukewarm soapy water so that the mold release agent disappears, because paint will not hold over it. Cut the casting blocks off with a saw or a sharp cutter, not with nippers, and level the face with a file; when sanding resin, protect your airways and preferably work wet. They are glued with super glue, ideally the gel kind, which gives a few seconds to settle them. On the real machines the covers tend to be in striking colors, so it pays to paint them separately off the model and to fit them right at the end, once the finish and the weathering are done.

Who the set is for

  • Modelers building the CH-54 in 1:35 scale as a parked machine.
  • Creators of dioramas with ground crew and vehicles.
  • Those who want to raise the credibility of a model without cutting into its structure.
  • Beginners in working with resin – fitting is simple and reversible.

The accessory is supplied unpainted, as resin castings. Glue, paints and the base kit are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

No. It is a separate resin accessory – intake covers – meant to be glued onto an already built CH-54 model in 1:35 scale.

Super glue, that is cyanoacrylate, ideally in gel form. Ordinary plastic cement does not dissolve resin and the joint does not hold.

Yes. Wash them in lukewarm soapy water so that the mold release agent is removed, let them dry and spray on a primer suitable for resin.

The manufacturer does not give the exact number of pieces in the name, so it is not stated here. The extent of the set matches the blanking of the air intakes of that machine.
