About product

CH-54A Tarhe engines 1:35 (Reskit, for the ICM kit)

A detail set from Reskit that replaces the simplified engines from the ICM kit. Let us stress right at the start: this is not a kit of the helicopter but an accessory - you have to own the CH-54A model in 1:35 scale separately. The set is printed in resin, so it carries sharp edges, riveting, flanged joints and fine pipework of a kind that simply cannot be done in injection-molded plastic.

What the set contains

According to the manufacturer's instructions it consists of two complete engines, left and right, each with its own fittings. Besides the engine bodies themselves, the set holds intake ducts, exhaust nozzles, compressor front faces, engine mounts and struts plus small clamps and rods. A small decal sheet with technical stencils for the engines is included as well. According to the instructions the finished engines are seated on the engine deck from the ICM kit.

When you will appreciate the engines

An engine makes sense above all when it is visible. If you build the machine fully cowled, most of the work will disappear under the panels. The set is therefore aimed at builders who want the model in a maintenance scene with the engine bay open. Whether and how the cowling on the ICM kit can be opened - that is, whether the panels are separate or the plastic has to be cut - is not stated here. Before you buy the set, go through the instructions of your own kit; expect that opening the engines up may call for modifying the plastic. The engines also go well with the separately sold EAPS particle separator, which according to the instructions seats directly onto them.

Building and painting tips

Resin cannot be bonded with cement for polystyrene - reach for super glue (cyanoacrylate), or epoxy on larger areas. Cut the print supports off with a saw and level the surface. Sand wet only and do not breathe in the dust - it is harmful to health. Before painting, wash the parts in lukewarm water with detergent so that any mold release residue is washed off; on a greasy surface the paint will crack. Paint the engines in metallic shades and bring them out with a wash and a dry brush so that the pipework stands out.

Who the set is for

  • For builders of the ICM CH-54A in 1:35 who want an open engine bay
  • For builders of maintenance and diorama scenes
  • For more experienced modelers - resin, super glue and possible cutting of plastic
  • For those who want to complete the set with the EAPS particle separator

The detail set is supplied unassembled and unpainted. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package.

FAQ

No. It is a detail set of two engines. You have to own the CH-54A kit from ICM in 1:35 scale separately - the set seats on its engine deck.

That is not stated here. The set contains the engines, not the cowling panels. Opening the engine bay up may call for modifying the plastic from the kit - go through its instructions first.

Yes, a small decal sheet with technical stencils for the engines is included. The manufacturer's instructions have a separate page for their placement.

Cement for polystyrene does not work - use super glue or epoxy. Cut the supports off with a saw, sand wet and do not breathe in the dust, as it is harmful to health. Wash the parts free of mold release agent before painting.
