About product

Stuart Mk.I Honey Early Prod. with sun shields (1:35, MiniArt)

An injection-molded plastic kit of the Stuart Mk.I Honey light tank in its early production form, complemented by the characteristic sun shields on the sides, in 1:35 scale from MiniArt. The kit contains photo-etched parts and clear parts for the vision ports and the lights; the hatches can be assembled in the open or the closed position. The decals allow several different forms to be built. This version comes without an interior, which shortens and simplifies the build. Follow the instructions for the exact contents.

The real subject

Stuart Mk.I was the British designation for the American M3 Stuart light tank, which the Commonwealth used in large numbers above all in North Africa. The nickname Honey was given to it by the soldiers themselves for its reliability and its pleasant handling. The fast and agile machine proved itself in reconnaissance and escort work. The sun shields, that is light sheet-metal screens above the wheels and the side panels, protected the crew and the vehicle from the radiant heat of the desert.

Building and painting tips

Seat and clean up the running gear and the tracks before you close up the hull. Fit the thin sun shields and the photo-etched parts carefully; use cyanoacrylate on the photo-etch and where plastic meets metal, and thin cement on the plastic. Sand the joints after filling and lay down a primer. Desert machines are painted in sand and light brown shades; dark washes in the hollows will add depth, bring out the edges with a dry brush and dust the whole underside and running gear heavily with light dust pigments.

Who the model is for

  • Collectors of Allied vehicles of the North African campaign
  • Followers of the Stuart light tank family
  • Modelers who appreciate photo-etched and clear parts
  • Intermediate and experienced builders

The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
