A group of figures in 1:35 scale from the production of Royal Model, tied thematically to the most widespread German tracked fighting vehicle of the Second World War. These are not merely repainted tankers: the crews of assault guns belonged organizationally to the artillery and wore the equivalent of the tank suit tailored from field gray cloth, not from black. Modelers often miss this detail, and yet it is the most pronounced recognition mark of the whole subject.
The vehicle was created on the chassis of the Panzer III medium tank and, instead of a rotating turret, had a fixed superstructure with the gun in the front wall. The low silhouette made it a difficult target, at the expense of the weapon's limited traverse. The early versions carried a short 75 mm weapon intended for infantry support, and from the F version a long StuK 40 gun replaced it, with which the assault gun became an effective tank killer. Around ten thousand vehicles of this type were built, more than of any German tank.
Make the field gray suit of the crew a shade different from the uniform of the accompanying infantry, so that the difference is apparent at first glance. With figures seated in open hatches, check the seating before you start gluing: the superstructure of the StuG III has its hatches close together.
