An injection-molded plastic model of the Soviet T-34/85 medium tank with anti-shaped-charge mesh screens (so-called bedspring armor) in 1:35 scale from the manufacturer Dragon. In kits like these the protective screens tend to be done as photo-etched parts. The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted; for the exact contents of the package, go by the enclosed instructions.
The T-34/85 was the late variant of the legendary Soviet T-34 tank with a new three-man turret and the 85mm gun. In the closing stage of the war, in particular in the street fighting for Berlin, a number of machines received improvised standoff protection of wire mesh resembling bedsprings, hence the nickname bedspring. This standoff protection was to detonate the shaped-charge warheads of infantry anti-tank weapons prematurely, before they struck the armor itself.
First finish the running gear and the underside of the hull. Glue the photo-etched screens with cyanoacrylate only at the end and shape them carefully, so that they keep the characteristic distance from the armor. Spray the base over a primer; bring the Soviet green to life by lightening the surfaces and with a wash. Pigments and a dry brush will create the dust and mud of ruins that belong to the fighting for Berlin.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
