The British soldier Tommy with a stubborn donkey in 1:35 scale is a genre figure set in resin complemented by a small photo-etched sheet.
Responsibility details are not available.
This genre scene from the Italian brand Royal Model sets a British infantryman against a pack animal that refuses to move. Besides the resin parts, a small photo-etched sheet for the thin parts of the harness is included. The result is humorous, but the equipment and the posture are worked out entirely seriously.
The nickname Tommy has accompanied the British soldier since the nineteenth century and comes from the specimen name Thomas Atkins on service forms. During the Second World War it was borne by infantrymen from North Africa to Normandy. Pack animals, meanwhile, were no curiosity: in the mountains of Italy and in the Balkans mules and donkeys supplied the lines where a vehicle could not get through, and in the British army there were whole transport units for the purpose.
Both the animal and the figure have large smooth areas on which every trace of sanding shows; look at the parts against the light before you reach for the primer. The coat of the donkey comes out best if you go over it with a dry brush once the base coat has dried. Degrease the metal sheet first and bend it over the edge of a ruler, not with your fingers. Bend the harness slightly after painting, so that it looks supple.
The figures arrive unassembled and without paintwork; have the glue ready beforehand.
