The Trabant 601 was a small two-door car with front-wheel drive, an air-cooled two-stroke two-cylinder engine and body panels of pressed plastic on a steel frame. It was built in Zwickau from 1963 and, in successive forms, until the beginning of the 1990s. Thanks to its low weight and simple construction it also appeared in amateur motorsport; competition cars usually differed from the production ones in their interior conversion, protective fittings, rally equipment and a striking finish with competition numbers. Which particular vehicle and which finish the kit captures is not stated here.
Work from the chassis and the interior, which on a competition version are easier to finish before the body is closed. Sand the mold seams with a fine sponge and glue with thin cement for plastic. Put a light primer under a bright competition finish, otherwise a strong shade will run away into the unevenness. Polish the surface with a gloss coat before the decals and, once it has dried, unify the whole car with a semi-matte varnish. On a competition car weathering looks natural: fine dust on the fenders and sills, dried mud in the wheel arches and dulled tires. Paint the figure separately and set it in place only once the paintwork is finished.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
