A plastic set in 1:35 scale from the Ukrainian manufacturer MiniArt. It is not just figures: the box holds two motorcycles, three figures of an American repair crew and, on top of that, tool boxes and individual tools, supplemented with photo-etched parts, clear parts and a decal sheet. The set is in effect a small ready-made scene in a box, which only needs to be built, painted and set on a base.
With the American army in the Second World War, motorcycles served as a means of liaison and reconnaissance, and their maintenance was part of the everyday work of the technical sections. The set captures exactly such a scene: machines parked for repair, open tool boxes and a crew absorbed in the work. It is precisely everyday scenes of this kind that tend to be more striking in a diorama than combat ones, because they offer natural poses and a host of small props that tell a story.
Glue the figures together and clean up the parting lines before you start painting; on faces and hands every mold line shows. Build the motorcycles separately and paint the frame before the small parts are fitted. Build up the uniforms from the base shade through a dark wash into the folds to a dry brush on the edges, while for skin work the other way, from a darker base toward the highlights. Weather the tools and the boxes sparingly: a few shiny spots on the handles and a metallic sheen on the cutting edges are enough to make the scene look used.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
