An injection-molded plastic kit of the American amphibious tracked cargo carrier in 1:35 scale. Gecko Models offers the early production version with an interior, photo-etched parts, clear parts, decals and realistic fabric elements (tarpaulins). It is a less common subject that stands out in a display case full of tanks.
The M76 Otter was an American amphibious tracked cargo carrier developed at the end of the 1940s as a successor to the small M29 Weasel. It was officially adopted in 1953 and served mainly with the Marine Corps (USMC). Its low ground pressure and its buoyancy let it move through mud, snow and water where ordinary wheeled and tracked vehicles could not go. It was also used in the Vietnam War. The early production version differs from later ones in details of the hull and the equipment.
Deal with the running gear and the interior before you close up the hull. Glue with thin cement for plastic and attach the photo-etched parts with cyanoacrylate. The fabric elements reward you if you paint them with subtle highlighting of the folds and leave a flat surface. The vehicle usually wore an olive scheme: paint it with an airbrush, lighten the centers of the panels and add washes, dust and above all mud — an amphibious machine from muddy terrain can take heavy mud on the running gear and the lower hull. A rewarding subject for a diorama with water or mud.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
