An open or cut-away interior is one of the most rewarding ways to build a scene. The viewer gets inside, where he does not normally look, and that in itself holds the attention. For it to work, there has to be something inside to look at. This set supplies the fittings of a sleeping quarters: twenty-one cast parts and, with them, a photo-etched sheet for the parts that cannot be made from a casting.
Besides the classic barrack room it suits a guardhouse, a sick bay, the rear area of an air unit or a part of a building missing a wall after a hit. A scene without figures is also interesting: made beds, a coat spread out on one of them, an open locker. An empty space with a sense of recent presence tends to be stronger than a room full of figures.
Avoid perfect order in every corner. An absolutely squared-away interior looks like a shop window and it is far harder to find a story in it.
One more note on light. An interior looks best when light comes in through only one opening, that is, a window or a breached wall. An evenly lit room loses depth and all the details in it merge into a single surface.
The set deals with the fittings, not with the building or its occupants.
