The real subject

The Schwimmwagen Type 166 was a German light amphibious vehicle of the Second World War, coming from the same technical family as the Kübelwagen light cross-country car. Its hull was bathtub-shaped and watertight, the drive went to all wheels and at the rear there was a swing-down marine propeller with which it moved on water. On a model it is interesting precisely for that mixture of small features which turn an ordinary vehicle into an amphibian.

What the set contains

This is a set of photo-etched parts in 1:35 scale, that is flat parts of thin metal sheet which replace or complete plastic parts of the model. The set is cut for the kit with the manufacturer's part number HERO 35001. Photo-etch comes into its own wherever the material should be genuinely thin: on brackets, clips, grilles and sheet-metal covers, to which injection-molded plastic can never give the correct thickness. The extent of the fret and the assignment of the parts are given in the manufacturer's instructions.

Building and painting tips

Separate the parts with a sharp blade on a firm surface, not by twisting, otherwise the sheet will buckle and a flat surface can no longer be trued. Make the fold along the scored line and press it down with a straight edge or a bending tool. Metal holds only with super glue. Degrease the surfaces before painting and lay down a primer, otherwise the paint will not hold on smooth metal and will rub off while the model is handled.
