An injection-molded plastic kit of a carrier fighter in the tiny 1:350 scale. This scale is used above all for models of warships, so the aircraft will find its place mainly on the deck of an aircraft carrier model, on a stand in a diorama or as an addition to a display scene. It is therefore not a stand-alone aircraft model of the usual size but a miniature meant to complete a larger whole. The manufacturer is Trumpeter.
The F4F-4 Wildcat was an American carrier fighter of the Second World War. It was notable for its robust all-metal construction, its radial engine and main landing gear that retracted into the fuselage. The F4F-4 version had folding wings, which saved a great deal of room on deck and in the hangars of aircraft carriers and so allowed more of them to be operated from a single ship.
The parts are very small in this scale, so cut them off with a sharp scalpel on a mat and work over a tray, so that nothing gets lost. Join them with thin cement for plastic applied with a needle or a fine brush, or with super glue on the smallest parts. Apply the paint with an airbrush or a well-pointed brush in thin coats, so that the surface relief does not disappear. At this size the cockpit only needs to be suggested with a dark shade; the overall impression comes mainly from the silhouette, clean edges and a subtle color transition on the fuselage. If decals are included in the package, apply them onto a gloss base and use a decal softener so that they settle into the shapes. Finally, even the surface out with a matte coat.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
