About product

The real subject

Taiho was a Japanese aircraft carrier completed in the spring of 1944, and she remained the only one of her type. What set her apart from the older Japanese ships of this kind was an armored flight deck, which was meant to keep the ship in service even after a bomb hit, and an enclosed bow running right up to the deck, thanks to which she took a seaway better than her predecessors. Also striking is the island with a funnel angled outboard over the side. She lasted only a few months in service: in June 1944, in the Battle of the Philippine Sea, a single torpedo from an American submarine struck her, and although the hit was manageable in itself, accumulated aviation fuel vapors tore the ship apart a few hours later.

What the set contains

This is a kit to be assembled and painted. In 1:350 scale the finished model comes out just under seventy-five centimeters long, so allow for the room in a display case in advance. The extent of the parts, the choice of marking options and the way the hull is executed are given by the manufacturer's instructions.

Building and painting tips

On a ship model the hull and the deck are the foundation, and it is worth giving them time: try the parts dry and deal with any gaps before you start on the fittings. Finish and paint the flight deck and the superstructures while they are still accessible. Glue the small parts of the armament on last, otherwise you will knock them off while handling the model. Wash and degrease the surface before painting. Separate accessory sets for raising the detail of the model exist for this ship as well.

Terms of supply

Paints, thinner, glue and tools are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

It is not. This is a kit; the parts have to be cleaned up, glued together and painted according to the manufacturer's instructions.

In 1:350 scale the length comes out just under seventy-five centimeters, so allow for that when choosing room in a display case.

She was the first Japanese aircraft carrier with an armored flight deck and an enclosed bow. In service, though, she lasted only a few months of 1944.

Yes, separate accessory sets for raising the detail exist for this ship. They are not part of this kit.
