Plastic kit of the Soviet nuclear attack submarine of the Victor III class, that is, project 671RTMK, in 1:350 scale from Hobby Boss.
Responsibility details are not available.
This kit captures the Soviet nuclear attack submarine that Western classification designates as the Victor III class and the Soviet designation as project 671RTMK. The 1:350 scale is one of the most widespread for submarines, so the model sits well in a collection beside other undersea craft of the Cold War. Submarines have a considerably simpler outline than surface ships, so the result depends above all on clean work with the shape of the hull and with the paint.
Project 671 and its later variants were the backbone of the Soviet nuclear attack submarines, whose task was to shadow the opponent's task forces and to protect their own ballistic missile carriers. The last variant of this family can be told from the older units by the prominent pod at the aft end of the vertical rudder, in which the towed sonar array is housed. That very feature makes the Victor III one of the most easily recognized Soviet submarines of the Cold War.
The hull of the submarine is split lengthwise, so the biggest job is sanding the seam so that it is invisible after painting. Work through filler, fine abrasive paper and polishing, and always check the joint by spraying a base coat. Apply the dark shades of the hull with an airbrush in thin layers, otherwise the engraved lines disappear. The model benefits from light shading of the panels and from discreet staining at the waterline; overdone weathering looks unnatural on submarines.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
