A miniature resin accessory for a model of the A-4C Skyhawk carrier attack aircraft in 1:48 scale. It is not a kit. The set deals with a single detail: the wiper on the windshield of the cockpit. In injected plastic such thin arms are either not made at all or are so thick that most modelers prefer to cut them off. Resin manages a noticeably finer profile and the part still stands being handled with tweezers.
The Skyhawk is a small single-engine attack aircraft and its cockpit is one of the first places a visitor looks at in a display case. The glazing tends to be clean and glossy on a model, so every detail at its edge stands out. A thin wiper at the foot of the windshield is exactly the element that gives away at once in a photograph of a model that the builder took trouble over it – and it can be added in a few minutes, with no intervention in the structure.
First wash the resin castings in lukewarm soapy water, so that the release agent from the mold disappears, as paint does not hold under it. Cut the part off over a tray or over an open bag, because a thing this small flies off and you will not find it on a carpet. Paint it while it is still on the casting block, usually in flat black or dark gray, and only then separate it. Apply the glue with a needle or the tip of a wire in an amount that fits on a pinhead; super glue moreover creates a white bloom on glossy glazing, so it pays to dose it as sparingly as possible. Add the wiper as the very last step, once the masks are off the cockpit.
The accessory is supplied unpainted, as resin castings. Glue, paints and the base kit are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
