This item covers the variant in which the body of the weapon is given thermal protection. On a model it is set apart by its surface finish and the division of its casing, so it forms a clearly recognizable pair alongside the ordinary form. That is precisely why the maker lists it separately, and it is worth telling the two versions apart when ordering.
Munitions hung on an aircraft take great differences of temperature: radiated heat from the deck, warming in flight and cold at altitude. The protective layer is meant to limit the effect of the surrounding heat on the filling and the electronics and to raise safety in storage and in operation in confined conditions. To the eye it shows as a different character of surface from that of a smooth metal body.
Do not sand the textured surface more than necessary, or you will lose what sets the variant apart. Apply the undercoat in thin coats, so that the relief stays apparent. Stenciling and color bands do a great deal on aircraft munitions, so give them your attention. Handle the mounting only once the painting is done and align all the pieces in one plane. If you have the ordinary variant as well, lay them side by side before painting; the difference is then easier to capture.
