Responsibility details are not available.
An injection-molded plastic kit of the Grumman AF-3S Guardian carrier anti-submarine aircraft in 1:48 scale. The model represents one of the versions of this rugged single-engine machine from the start of the 1950s. The designation AF-3S in the name identifies which of them it is.
The Guardian was the first production carrier aircraft of the US Navy designed directly for anti-submarine warfare. The system was arranged as a pair of cooperating machines: one searched for submarines with a search radar and sensors, the other destroyed them with bombs and depth charges. The AF-3S version of 1952 carried a magnetic anomaly detector (MAD) on a retractable boom for finding submerged submarines. Among other duties the Guardian served on patrol during the Korean War; it was bulky and underpowered, and in service it was later replaced by the Grumman S2F Tracker.
Glue the parts with liquid cement for plastic and apply a primer before painting. an airbrush suits the overall dark blue naval scheme (Glossy Sea Blue). The Guardian had a number of prominent external features, the radome, the sensor covers and the MAD boom, where careful sanding of the joints pays off. A fine wash will bring out the panel structure.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
