A set of four AGM-114L missiles in 1:48 scale. It is not a kit but an accessory that replaces the underwing armament from the box on a model. With missile armament the difference tells at once: plastic missiles tend to have a parting line along their whole length, which cannot be sanded away without losing the engraving, and the blunt front part tends to be only suggested. A resin casting is in one piece, so you do not have to deal with a parting line, and it holds the shape of the head and the fins as it should.
The AGM-114L is the variant of the Hellfire missile with radar guidance in the millimeter band. After launch it tracks the target itself and does not require anyone to keep it illuminated with a laser. The recognition feature against the laser versions is the front part: instead of an optical window it carries a blunter cover over the radar head. The missile is connected with attack helicopters equipped with a mast-mounted radar, so on a model it makes sense precisely on those machines.
A resin missile is heavier than a plastic one and the smooth wall of the rail gives it little area to hold on to. Pinning therefore pays off: drill a hole with a micro drill into the body of the missile and into the launcher, glue a piece of brass wire in and secure the joint that way against snapping off during handling of the model. Before that, wash the release agent off the parts and cut the remainder of the casting block or the printing supports off and sand it down wet. Use cyanoacrylate glue, and on larger areas rather a medium-thick one, so that there is time left to line the axis of the missile up with the mounting.
The set is an accessory, not a kit. It is supplied unpainted. Glue, paints and the basic model are not included in the package.
