About product

ASV Mk.II radar for the Bristol Beaufort in 1:48 scale (3D print)

This is a fine 3D-printed detail set, not a stand-alone airplane model. It contains resin parts that faithfully reproduce the antenna array of the British ASV Mk.II search radar (Air to Surface Vessel) as fitted to the maritime versions of the bomber. The parts are printed at high resolution and capture the slender Yagi rod antennas that appeared on the spine of the fuselage and under the wings of the real aircraft.

What the set is for

In the Second World War the ASV Mk.II radar was used to find surface vessels and submarines in any weather and was key equipment of RAF Coastal Command. The set lets the modeler fit the fuselage and the flying surfaces with realistic antennas, which the base kit usually does not have at all or renders in simplified form.

Usage tips

Carefully separate the parts from the print supports and wash off the uncured print resin residue. It is bonded with super glue (cyanoacrylate). We recommend reinforcing the slender antennas before painting and handling them with care, because they are fragile. Check the position of the antennas against period photographs before gluing.

Who the set is for

  • Modelers building the maritime version of the Bristol Beaufort in 1:48 scale
  • Anyone interested in a faithful rendering of coastal patrol radar equipment
  • More advanced builders used to working with fine 3D-printed parts

The set is an accessory for a kit; it is supplied unassembled and unpainted. The base model, glue and paints are not included in the package.
