A pair of castings of the French cluster bomb BLG-66 Belouga in 1:48 scale for models of the Mirage and Jaguar aircraft.
Responsibility details are not available.
The set contains two pieces of the cluster bomb developed for the French Air Force by a French arms works at the turn of the 1970s and 1980s. The Belouga is recognizable by its shape at once: a slender body with a prominent ring of stabilizers at the tail.
The bomb dispenses its submunitions gradually during flight, which spreads the effect over a strip of ground instead of into a single point. The payload was supplied in variants against vehicles, against personnel and with delayed action, so a commander chose according to the nature of the target. It was carried above all by the Mirage series and the Jaguar attack aircraft, in France as well as with foreign users. It stayed in the inventory from the end of the 1970s well into the following decades and is one of the recognition marks of French combat aircraft of its time.
The ring at the tail is the thinnest and most vulnerable spot of the whole casting; support it with a finger while cleaning it up. French ordnance tends to come in a sand or a light gray finish; make the sharp transitions between shades with masking putty. Small stencils can be suggested with decals from a spare sheet, and there is no point in drawing them by hand. After washing, let the castings rest for a few hours so that all the moisture evaporates out of the pores.
The aircraft itself and its pylons are obtained separately.
