Responsibility details are not available.
An injection-molded plastic kit of the iconic American heavy bomber in 1:48 scale from HK Models, a maker known for large bombers. The box captures the specific shape of the early production series of the G version, that is a machine with cheek gun positions on the sides of the nose, waist gunner windows placed symmetrically and the standard tail gun position. The package holds gray plastic, clear parts, photo-etched metal and decals for two markings. The model has a detailed cockpit and interior, an openable bomb bay with bombs, separately molded turbochargers and an optional position of the landing gear and the flaps. Dimensions of the finished model: a wingspan of roughly 658 mm and a length of about 474 mm, so count on a really large display case.
The B-17 Flying Fortress was a four-engine heavy bomber and a symbol of the American daylight strategic bombing of Europe. It became famous for its legendary toughness: machines came back to base literally shot to pieces, with parts of the tail torn off or engines gone. The G version is the most produced variant, and its recognition mark is the chin turret under the nose, which closed the weak spot in the defense against head-on attacks. Early G airframes still carried features of the older series, though: waist gunner windows set symmetrically opposite each other (later they were staggered so that the gunners did not get in each other's way) and the older type of tail gun position. These are exactly the details that tell early and late production apart.
Proceed as usual with injection-molded plastic: cut the parts off with sprue cutters, clean them with a file and glue them with thin liquid cement for plastic. Because of the amount of glazing it pays to prepare the window masking in advance. Finish the interior and the bomb bay and close them up before joining the fuselage. Apply primer before painting, spray with an airbrush (natural metal, or an olive drab and gray camouflage according to the chosen scheme), apply the decals over a gloss clear coat and seal them with a matte one. The large wingspan calls for care in handling: work on a mat and set the model on a stand or a base as soon as it is built.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
