The Cheetah D in 1:48 scale from Kinetic is a plastic kit of the two-seat South African version of an upgraded machine derived from the Mirage III.
Responsibility details are not available.
An injection-molded plastic kit of the two-seat Cheetah D in 1:48 scale. Kinetic has long concentrated on upgraded Mirage derivatives, and this box covers the two-seat variant, which differs from the single-seater in a longer forward fuselage and a tandem cockpit for two crew members.
The Cheetah came about in South Africa through a deep upgrade of airframes derived from the Mirage III. The aircraft received canards ahead of the wing, a reworked nose with new avionics, a probe for in-flight refueling and a range of small aerodynamic changes. The two-seat D version served for training as well as for combat tasks where a second crew member came in handy. The type was retired from service with the South African Air Force and replaced by more modern equipment.
With delta wings it is worth dry-fitting the joints, as the wing-to-fuselage transitions often need filler. The tandem cockpit is visible through the large glazing, so it is worth spending time or accessories on it. Glue the canards on only after the forward fuselage is finished and watch that their angle is symmetrical. The camouflage of these machines tends to use hard edges, for which masks work better than freehand spraying.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
